Frequently Asked Questions

Is it just for Reef Aquariums?

Although MiniatureReef.Com specialises in the keeping of Reef Aquarium many of us also enjoy keeping fresh water fish, wether they be cold or tropical.

We are happy to say you can use your My Aquarium web space to showcase any type of aquatic aquarium.

Can I have another Banner to go with my Tropical Aquarium?

At the moment the 'My Aquarium' banner has a definate bent towards the 'Reef Aquarium'.

To reflect the fact that the web space is open to all types of aquariums we shall be producing other versions of the banner that you can choose to compliment your type of aquarium.

Can I contribute an artical to the main site?

If you feel you have something on your web space that would add to the central content of MiniatureReef.Com please email us. We can then arrange direct links from the main site to your contributed pages.

Can I have extra, or different pages?

We have worked hard to make the page templates as flexible as possible, whilst keeping the feel of the pages MiniatureReef esq.

However we are open to sugestions (polite ones I hope). If you have a good idea, that you feel will add value to the service we can offer you and other users, please email us.

Although we cannot make any promises, we will usually try to implement good ideas. Please remember that this will be dependant upon it being technicaly possible, and us having the time available to develop the changes.

I use a 'dial up' connection to the internet, and I am having trouble with uploading large files

This web space uses HTTP uploads to transfer your pictures, video and text. Over reliable high quality connections this works well, I have had no problems uploading 10MB files over a 2 MBit broadband connection. However very slow and noisy conections (such as dial up) can cause large file tranfers to be broken.

To minimise problems with dial up connections you can try the following:

Be realistic with file sizes, try to keep them below 4MB

Reset your connection; you may have connected via a noisy line to your Internet Service Provider. This may improve with a fresh connection.

Try at a less busy time; The slowness of your connection is posibly being agrivated by congestion on the internet. Uploading at an unusual (hopefully quiter) time may improve your success rate.

Only upload one file at a time; uploading multiple small files very slowly is the same as uploading one very large one, and can cause your conection to the server to time out, resulting in an error message.

If you have followed the above advice but are still having repeated problems, we can grant you 'ftp (file transfer protocol)' access to your web space.

This will require ftp software that can be found free on the internet. We can then provide you with a password and username alowing you to upload files to your web space.

Please note due to the time involved in setting this up, this extra service is curently only available to paid members of My Aquarium web space
