Most of the corals in our New system (and before that, the old display tank) have been grown from frags / coral cuttings, and in turn are harvested, to be grown on. Originally this was done in a separate dedicated 'coral farm' This activity is now undertaken in the new (much larger) display tank where they benefit from the optimum water parameters.
Not only does this farming allow us to reduce the costs of the hobby, but along with other aquarists farming efforts, it also helps reduce (not stop) the demand for corals from their natural environment.
I have noticed corals that have become acclimatised to living in a reef tank over a number of generations, appear to grow faster, and become more tolerant of small changes in water conditions than their wild cousins. Also the Parent colony usually exhibits an increased growth rate after 'cuttings' are taken for propagation. This may be due to an increase in the water flow and light around the opened up structure (i.e. more space for water flow around the branches and less shading).
All of our corals are grown with great care, and rather than being frags sold on as soon as the coral re-grows down to its new base, we keep them as part of our display until they are small corals. This prevents our display tank from looking like a coral farm and provides you with a nicer looking coral . It does mean that our production is very limited, but after all, it is a hobby and not a business.
We are always trying to broaden the selection of corals that we have available to propagate, and as such, are on the lookout for brightly coloured variations of any type of coral
Below are examples of the types of corals we routinely cultivate. To see the actual corals currently for sale follow this link CORALS FOR SALE. Please note it is a first come first served system
